I did a few slots for the BBC this year, all on the current state of AI in UK universities, and what it means for teaching and for students.

There was a news article in March in which Kayleigh Harvey at BBC Scotland spoke to me and several Edinburgh students about the mis-use of AI. Conclusion? Students mostly recognise the risks of using AI, and view it as a useful ‘tool’ more than as a means of ‘cheating’.

Then in September, BBC Radio 4 ran a series called ‘Universities Challenged‘, one episode of which framed the AI debate by asking: ‘does AI undermine the purpose of getting a degree’? For me, the answer was a hard ‘no’!

Finally BBC Scotland ran a popular Tik Tok post on ‘Students and the dilemma of AI’, in which I was featured as the ‘professional expert’ – watch it here and draw your own conclusions 🙂
